Why Scrum?

Picture
Agile methodology is a type of project management process, which historically has been used for software development. It involves a collaborative effort of self-organizing, cross-functional teams and their customers. It was created in response to the inadequacies of traditional development approaches, such as the Waterfall method. Software development projects require compressed timelines to more effectively meet changing market conditions and customer needs, and Waterfall methods fall short in this area.

Scrum is rugby term that describes a formation the team uses to ultimately advance the ball down the field. As it applies to Agile, it is a simple framework that is used to implement the ideas behind Agile, which allows for effective team collaboration on complex products. Scrum includes team members responsible for the product from the very beginning of the product development effort, and they work closely together to develop that product.

In essence, Scrum's goal is to advance the ball down the field in a quicker manner to develop a product or service that results in happier customers.

What are the Benefits of Scrum?

Delighted Customers

By building iteratively and incrementally, companies are able to deliver the products and services customers really need faster and more effectively. With Scrum, you can receive and incorporate customer feedback while developing the product.

Reduced Product Costs

Scrum also improves your return on investment by reducing costs, due to accelerated speed-to-market and elimination of work not essential to a minimally viable product. This allows for a faster, leaner, and more cost-effective development team — and a healthier bottom line.

A Happier, More Productive Team

Technical employees get to build things quickly that customers get to use faster, which is an exciting thing for engineers!
